With Yuva Nidhi Scheme, Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah Government Implements All 5 Poll Promises It Made

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched the final assurance, the ‘Yuva Nidhi’ scheme in Bengaluru on December 26, providing unemployment aid to graduates and diploma holders. Allowance distribution will commence on January 12, coinciding with the celebration of National Youth Day, honoring Swamy Vivekananda’s birth anniversary.

With this, the Siddaramaiah government has fulfilled all the five key promises his party made before the Assembly election.

Under this initiative, graduates will receive ₹3,000, while diploma holders from the 2022-23 academic year will be granted ₹1,500. The financial assistance is directed towards those unable to secure employment within 180 days of degree/diploma completion, with a prerequisite of six years’ Karnataka domicile.

During the launch, CM Siddaramaiah questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic expertise, asserting that all five guarantees promised by the Congress government have now been fulfilled, contradicting Modi’s earlier predictions of financial strain on the state.

Approximately 5.3 lakh eligible beneficiaries, who graduated in the 2022-2023 academic year, have been identified. However, those already employed or pursuing higher education are deemed ineligible. The two-year unemployment allowance is estimated to cost ₹250 crore in the current fiscal year, with projections of ₹1,250 crore for the next year and ₹2,500 crore the following year.

Siddaramaiah emphasized that alongside Yuva Nidhi, free training would be provided to the youth. He criticized Modi for not fulfilling his promise to create two crore jobs annually, highlighting the scheme’s successful implementation in the state. The unemployment allowance will be disbursed for two years or until the individual secures employment/self-employment, with funds directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
