Ahmedabad, June 12: Among the passengers aboard the Air India Dreamliner that crashed shortly after departing from Ahmedabad on Thursday was Vijay Rupani, former Chief Minister of Gujarat.
The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8, was en route to London’s Gatwick Airport when the tragic incident occurred. As confirmed by local authorities, the plane went down in a civilian-populated zone not far from the airport.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Air India said the flight had taken off at 1:38 PM carrying a total of 242 individuals, including both passengers and crew. The airline specified the nationality breakdown: 169 Indian citizens, 53 from the UK, one Canadian national, and seven Portuguese travelers.
According to the flight’s seating records, 68-year-old Vijay Rupani was assigned seat 2D. He was reportedly traveling to London to visit his daughter.
