Bengaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader announced on Sunday that the suspension order of 18 BJP MLAs will be withdrawn.
The significant decision was taken during a reconciliation meeting held earlier today, chaired by Speaker Khader, in connection with the suspension of the 18 BJP legislators.
The MLAs had been suspended from the Assembly for six months following allegations of showing disrespect towards the Speaker’s chair and tearing up copies of a bill and throwing them at him. However, the decision has now been made to revoke the suspension order.
“All the MLAs expressed regret over the incident. The Leader of the Opposition also submitted a formal request to me. They assured that such incidents would not recur. It has been two months since the suspension was imposed, and I am now pleased to revoke it,” Speaker Khader stated. “There are no conditions attached. We are all colleagues. At that time, disciplinary action was necessary due to the misconduct. As Speaker, I have the authority to take such action.”
The reconciliation meeting was attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka, Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani, and Law Minister H.K. Patil.
