New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail of Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni, who had been arrested and later released on bail in the murder case of Dharwad BJP leader Yogesh Gowda. The court also directed Kulkarni to surrender within a week. This increases the likelihood that the MLA from Dharwad City constituency may be sent back to jail.

The Supreme Court passed the order on Friday after accepting the CBI’s plea seeking cancellation of Vinay Kulkarni’s bail. On June 15, 2016, BJP Zilla Panchayat member Yogesh Gowda was murdered in Dharwad. Vinay Kulkarni is the 15th accused in the case.

Kulkarni was arrested in connection with the case in 2020, and he was granted bail in 2021. However, after being released, the CBI accused him of trying to bribe witnesses with Rs 1 lakh, and argued that he had violated bail conditions, hence requested the Supreme Court to cancel his bail. After hearing the petition, the court on Friday ordered the cancellation of his bail.
