Sonia Gandhi and Others Take Oath as Rajya Sabha Members
In a significant event at the new Parliament building, New Delhi witnessed the swearing-in of former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw as members of the Rajya Sabha. Alongside them, 12 others hailing from diverse states such as Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana also took the oath.
Sonia Gandhi secured her Rajya Sabha seat representing Rajasthan, while Vaishnaw entered as a member from Odisha. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, signifying the commencement of their terms in the upper house.
The Rajya Sabha saw a diverse mix of representatives, including Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Syed Naseer Hussain from Karnataka, BJP’s R P N Singh from Uttar Pradesh, and Samik Bhattacharya from West Bengal.
Additionally, Sanjay Kumar Jha of JD(U), along with Subhashish Khuntia, Debashish Samantaray, and Madan Rathore, were among the others who took their oaths as Rajya Sabha members.
While the terms for members from Odisha and Rajasthan began on Thursday, others commenced their duties a day earlier. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rajya Sabha’s deputy chairman Harivansh, and secretary general P C Mody graced the occasion, marking their presence at the ceremony.
Following the oath-taking, a collective photograph was captured with RS chairman Dhankar, symbolizing the unity and camaraderie amongst the newly inducted members.
