Dharwad: Residents of Surya Nagar and Bhuvaneshwari Nagar near Karnatak University in Dharwad were on high alert after claims of a leopard sighting circulated among locals. Promptly responding to the alert, residents notified the forest department, prompting swift action from officials who rushed to the area to investigate.

Despite diligent efforts, officials have yet to uncover any evidence of the elusive feline’s presence. Pradeep Pawar, Range Forest Officer (RFO) of Dharwad, stated that despite thorough searches conducted by the department, no leopard pugmarks have been found thus far. However, precautionary measures are being taken, with plans to place bait for potential capture should any pugmarks be discovered.

The search operation is set to continue into the night and resume tomorrow morning, with teams patrolling the area diligently. In light of the situation, authorities have issued advisories to residents, urging them to refrain from venturing outdoors after sunset and to abstain from morning walks until the completion of the search efforts.

While the area in question has limited residential presence, the forest department remains vigilant, prioritizing the safety and well-being of both residents and wildlife alike. Further updates on the situation are anticipated as the search continues.
