Bengaluru: Tragedy struck celebrations in Bengaluru as a massive crowd gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 to mark Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 championship win. A stampede-like situation near Gate No. 3 reportedly led to the deaths of at least ten people and left 24 others injured, including a six-year-old child. Officials fear the casualty count could rise.

According to hospital sources, seven of the deceased were rushed to Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar, while three others were taken to Vaidehi Hospital, formerly known as Mallya Hospital. The chaos erupted as thousands of enthusiastic fans awaited the arrival of RCB players at the stadium. The surge of the crowd resulted in panic and trampling, with emergency services struggling to manage the situation.

Authorities are investigating how the crowd control failed during such a high-profile event. Meanwhile, the incident has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a historic and joyous occasion for the franchise and its supporters.

Meanwhile, DCM DK Shivakumar said that the crowd was uncontrollable and they have cancelled victory procession seeing the crowd. He said he has no initial information about the stampede and death, said he would provide details about it  when it is available.
