Hubballi: In a move that has ignited fervent opposition, the South Western Railway (SWR) decision to cease the operations of the 07339/07340 Hubballi-Bengaluru-Hubballi Super-Fast Express has sparked outrage among the residents of Hubballi-Dharwad and the surrounding districts.

Netizens are vehemently criticizing the railway authorities for discontinuing the service of this immensely popular train that directly connects Hubballi and Bengaluru. To underscore the train’s significance, individuals are taking to social media, sharing screenshots of their bookings as evidence of its widespread popularity.

The online community is uniting in demanding the authorities to reverse their decision, dismissing the “lack of poor occupancy” justification as a mere excuse. On platforms like Twitter, users are urging the railway authorities to reconsider the cancellation in the best interest of the public.

Adding fuel to the controversy, Congress leader Rajat Ullagaddimath has casted doubt on the motives behind the cancellation, slamming Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. Ullagaddimath suggests a potential political motive, insinuating a strategic move related to the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly election, where the train had been allocated.

In a scathing Twitter post, Ullagaddimath stated, “The railway authorities have been instructed to stop the 07339/07340 Hubli – Bangalore – Hubli Super-Fast Express which is always crowded! Railway officials have given the excuse that the train has been canceled due to fewer passengers. In fact, even now, it is difficult to get tickets in online booking for this train.”

On Friday, Rajat, alongside Suvarna Kallakuntla, the Opposition leader in the HDMC, and others, confronted railway authorities. They submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of the SWR, urging a reconsideration of the decision and emphasizing the critical importance of maintaining the service of this beloved and heavily patronized train.
