Masked Gunmen Kill Delhi Businessman in Broad Daylight
New Delhi: A 57-year-old businessman, Sunil Jain, was fatally shot by two masked men on a motorcycle in the Farsh Bazar area of Delhi’s Shahdara district on Saturday morning. The shocking incident occurred while Jain, a resident of Krishna Nagar and a utensils trader, was returning home on a scooter with a friend after a morning walk at the Yamuna Sports Complex, police reported.
Witnesses and officials revealed that the attackers fired at least seven to eight rounds. According to Jain’s companions, the assailants initially pretended to inform him that his phone had fallen. They then asked his name before one of them dismounted the bike and began firing. Jain reportedly pleaded for his life, but the masked gunmen ignored him and fled the scene within minutes.
Police have launched a manhunt, and forensic teams are examining the crime site. “The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the culprits,” said the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara.
Neighbor Dispute Turns Deadly in Govindpuri
In another violent incident on Friday night, a dispute between neighbors over the use of a shared toilet escalated into a fatal altercation in Delhi’s Govindpuri area. Police reported that the accused, identified as Bikham Singh, attacked his neighbors with a kitchen knife during the confrontation.
The attack left three people injured. One of them, Sudheer, succumbed to stab wounds to his chest and face, while two others, Prem (22) and Sagar (20), are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Kejriwal Criticizes BJP Over Rising Crime
Reacting to the incidents, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing it of failing to manage Delhi’s law and order.
“Criminals in Delhi have become emboldened under BJP rule. After the shooting in Vishwas Nagar, now there’s news of a deadly stabbing in Govindpuri,” Kejriwal posted on X (formerly Twitter). He alleged that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, which oversees Delhi Police, has failed to ensure safety in the capital and claimed that the BJP is unfit to handle governance ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
The AAP has ramped up its criticism of the Centre, citing a spate of recent crimes as evidence of neglect toward maintaining security in the city.
