Hubballi: Lingayat leaders within the Dharwad district Congress have vehemently criticized Jagadish Shettar’s return to the BJP, drawing parallels to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s frequent political shifts.

“We needn’t look to Bihar for a Nitish Kumar; we have our own in former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar,” remarked former MLC Mohan Limbikai to reporters. He questioned Shettar’s motives, stating, “I don’t understand why Shettar returned to the BJP. It’s a mystery. What example is he setting for the youth? He’s an epitome of self-serving politics, changing parties to suit his own goals.”

Limbikai highlighted Shettar’s past harsh criticism of the BJP, making his swift return appear contradictory. “He bitterly condemned the BJP when he joined the Congress, even lashing out at them just a week ago. It’s baffling why he’d suddenly go back.”

Beyond condemnation, Limbikai put forth specific demands on behalf of Lingayats. He called for a party ticket for a Veerashaiva Lingayat candidate in the upcoming Dharwad Lok Sabha elections, emphasizing the community’s underrepresentation. Additionally, he urged the Congress to fill the MLC seat vacated by Shettar’s resignation with a deserving Veerashaiva Lingayat, further advocating for senior party workers appointments to boards and corporations.
