New York- USA: In an unexpected turn of events, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the Indian ambassador to the United States, reportedly faced heckling by a group of pro-Khalistani elements during a visit to the Hicksville Gurdwara in New York‘s Long Island. The incident unfolded as Sandhu visited the gurdwara to offer prayers on the auspicious occasion of Gurpurab.

Confrontation at Hicksville Gurdwara

A video circulating on social media captured the moment Sandhu was confronted by a group making statements related to India-designated terrorists Hardeep Singh Nijjar and Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson RP Singh highlighted the incident, stating, “Khalistanis tried to heckle Indian Ambassador @SandhuTaranjitS with baseless questions.”

Accusations and Confrontation Details

The mob, led by Himmat Singh, accused Ambassador Sandhu of India’s alleged role in the failed plot to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and raised questions about the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, former President of Surrey Gurdwara. Singh claimed that Sandhu was involved in India’s role in Nijjar’s assassination.

Ambassador’s Response and Departure

In response to the incident, Sandhu took to social media, sharing a post that omitted the details of the heckling. Instead, he expressed gratitude for joining Kirtan, at Guru Nanak Darbar of Long Island to celebrate Gurpurab.

Pro-Khalistani Incidents on the Rise

This incident adds to a growing number of pro-Khalistani incidents reported in various countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. Recently, in Surrey, British Columbia, devotees and members of the Indo-Canadian community confronted pro-Khalistan elements protesting a consular camp at the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir. Nearly 200 counter-protestors faced off against the pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice, reflecting heightened tensions within the Sikh diaspora.
