Renowned Australian chef and food writer, Bill Granger, passed away at the age of 54 on Christmas Day, as announced by his family on social media. Granger, known for his self-taught culinary skills, began his chef’s career after leaving art school.

He gained fame for his breakfasts served at a communal table in his first restaurant in Sydney in 1993. Together with his wife, he expanded their restaurant business globally, with establishments in London, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

Granger, dubbed the ‘King of Breakfast,’ created a global impact with his unpretentious and sunny culinary style. His signature dishes, such as avocado on sourdough toast and creamy scrambled eggs, resonated with diners worldwide.

The family statement mentioned that Bill Granger peacefully passed away in a London hospital, surrounded by his wife and three daughters.

In addition to his culinary ventures, Granger authored 14 cookbooks and made appearances on various cookery shows, including as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia. His contributions to tourism and hospitality earned him the Medal of the Order of Australia earlier this year.
