Dharwad: Elections for 15 executive committee positions of the Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha, a prestigious cultural institution representing Kannadigas, were held on Sunday at the Kavi Sammelana Hall. The elections saw a voter turnout of nearly 50%.
A fierce contest unfolded between the faction led by former MLA Chandrakant Bellad and that of former MLC Mohan Limbikai, both vying for the president’s post. Voting began at 7:00 AM and continued uninterrupted until 5:00 PM.
The polling process witnessed enthusiastic participation, with around 4,300 members casting their votes by 4:30 PM. Out of the total 9,104 registered members, over 1,500 are reported to be deceased. Despite this, the high interest in this year’s elections led to a larger-than-usual turnout.
On average, over 4,450 votes were cast across various posts, indicating a tight race. The vote counting is scheduled for Monday, and all eyes are now on who will emerge victorious as the next president of the Sangha.
