In a strategic move for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati has officially designated her nephew, Akash Anand, as the successor to lead the BSP. This pivotal decision was announced during a party meeting convened by Mayawati in Lucknow, as revealed in the BSP chief’s post on X titled “10-12-2023-BSP Press Release-All-India Party Meeting.” Akash Anand currently holds the crucial position of BSP’s national coordinator.

This announcement comes amid the backdrop of the BSP’s decision to suspend MP Danish Ali, citing his alleged involvement in activities detrimental to the party’s interests. Danish Ali vehemently denied these accusations, maintaining that he has consistently aligned his actions with the party’s principles.

The party communicated its decision to suspend MP Danish Ali through a written letter, emphasizing repeated warnings about actions conflicting with party policies. The letter highlighted Danish Ali’s previous association with Dewe Gowdaji’s Janata Party and his subsequent candidacy as a BSP representative in the Amroha assembly constituency after the Karnataka assembly polls alliance with Janata Party.

Akash Anand’s political journey gained prominence ahead of the 2019 general elections when Mayawati announced his involvement in the BSP movement to familiarize himself with political intricacies. Anand, credited with introducing Mayawati to Twitter, played a role in enhancing the party’s social media presence.

Notably, during the 2019 general elections, Akash Anand stepped onto the political stage, addressing his first rally in the wake of the Election Commission’s 48-hour campaign ban on Mayawati. In his debut, he actively endorsed the SP-BSP-RLD alliance, encouraging public support.

Mayawati’s decision to designate Akash Anand as her successor marks a significant development in the BSP’s leadership landscape, setting the stage for the party’s approach in the upcoming electoral challenges.
