Brazilian Influencer Luana Andrade Passes Away After Botched Knee Liposuction

Brazilian influencer and reality TV star Luana Andrade has tragically passed away at the age of 29, following a botched operation to remove fat from her knee. According to Globo 1, Andrade had reportedly gone to the Hospital São Luiz in Sao Paulo on Monday to undergo knee liposuction, a procedure carried out by a private surgeon and anesthesiologist hired by her family.

During the surgery, a “respiratory event” occurred, leading to cardiac arrest two hours into the operation, as reported by the hospital. The surgeons immediately halted the procedure and conducted tests, revealing that Andrade had suffered massive thrombosis, where blood clots block veins or arteries.

Despite being transferred to the ICU, Andrade tragically passed away at 5:30 am on Tuesday. The official cause of death was ruled as a pulmonary embolism, a sudden arterial blockage typically occurring after a clot breaks off from the veins in the leg and travels to the lungs.

Andrade gained recognition for her participation in the reality dating show “Power Couple Brasil 6” in 2022, alongside her boyfriend, businessman João Hadad. In April, she announced on social media her role as a stage assistant for the program “Domingo Legal” on SBT and was involved in modeling and had her own clothing brand.

With over 540,000 followers on Instagram, Andrade frequently shared fitness and travel content. Just five days before her untimely death, she posted a compilation of memorable moments from 2023 with the caption: “It’s not even over yet, and so much gratitude for this year 2023.”
