Jaipur, Dec 12: In a major political development, Bhajan Lal Sharma was elected as the Legislature Party leader on Tuesday, marking a notable departure from the leadership of Vasundhara Raje, the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, who was not considered for the position this time.

Expressing his commitment to the comprehensive development of the state, Chief Minister-designate Bhajan Lal Sharma stated, “We will develop the state with everyone’s cooperation.” The decision comes following a meeting with BJP high command observers, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Vinod Tawde, and Saroj Pandey, who arrived in Jaipur for consultations with the MLAs.

During the discussions, Union Minister Rajnath Singh held one-on-one talks with Vasundhara Raje and conversed with BJP National President JP Nadda over the phone. Sources suggest that Singh persuaded Raje to propose the name of the new Chief Minister even before the official meeting.

Following the announcement of Bhajan Lal Sharma as the Chief Minister-designate, BJP leaders proceeded to Raj Bhavan to stake their claim to form the government in Rajasthan.

The BJP’s strategic move in Rajasthan involves social engineering by appointing a Brahmin Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma, and selecting a Rajput, Diya Kumari, and a Dalit, Prem Chand Bairwa, as his two Deputies. This decision sends a significant message to various segments of the population.

Notably, this marks the first time in 33 years that a Brahmin leader has assumed the role of Chief Minister in Rajasthan. The last Brahmin Chief Minister was Hari Dev Joshi from the Congress, who held the position thrice between 1973 and 1990.

To address the diverse demographic composition of the state, the BJP has also strategically appointed Diya Kumari, a Rajput from the royal family of Jaipur, as Deputy CM, and Prem Chand Bairwa, a Dalit from Dudu, as the second Deputy CM.

Party officials highlighted the meticulous efforts to balance social engineering equations, aiming to garner support across various communities in the state, setting the stage for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
