Antonov An-24 Lands on Frozen River After Pilot Mistake in Russia
A Polar Airlines Soviet-era Antonov An-24 plane, carrying 34 people, made landing on the frozen River Kolyma in Russia‘s Far East, reported BBC.
The incident occurred due to pilot error as the plane veered off the runway at Zyryanka airport. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the 30 passengers and four crew members, the BBC reported stated.
The report stated that, the flight, originating from Yakutsk, was en route to Zyryanka and was scheduled to continue to Srednekolymsk before returning to Yakutsk. Video footage showed the aircraft on the frozen river, and prosecutors attributed the incident to the pilot’s mistake. Temperatures in Zyryanka dip to around -40C at this time of year.
