Ahmedabad, June 12: A tragic incident unfolded near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday when an Air India aircraft carrying 242 people crashed shortly after takeoff, sending plumes of thick smoke into the sky and triggering immediate rescue efforts.
The aircraft, identified as a Boeing Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad’s runway 23 at around 1:39 PM. According to preliminary information from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the flight was en route to London but went down within five minutes of departure.
The crash occurred in Meghani Nagar — a densely populated neighborhood close to the airport. Eyewitnesses shared visuals on social media, showing intense smoke billowing from the site. Local residents, shocked by the sudden impact, rushed to the scene to assist rescue personnel before official teams arrived.
