Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt on Thursday paid homage to his parents, Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt, by performing the Hindu ritual of Pind Daan at the Vishnupad Temple in Gaya, Bihar. The temple is famous for its association with Pind Daan, a sacred ceremony meant to honor and provide salvation to departed ancestors.

Pind Daan involves offering rice balls, known as “pinds,” to the souls of the departed. This ritual signifies the completion of one’s duty towards ancestors and helps their spiritual journey towards liberation. The Vishnupad Temple is particularly significant for Pind Daan due to a sacred footprint embedded in a solid rock, believed to be created when Lord Vishnu pushed the demon Gayasura into the earth. Devotees believe that performing Pind Daan at this spot ensures the liberation of souls and helps them attain moksha.

Sanjay Dutt’s parents, Nargis Dutt and Sunil Dutt, passed away in 1981 and 2005, respectively. The actor was seen participating in the religious ritual in a video circulating on the internet.

The Vishnupad Temple, located in Gaya, attracts numerous pilgrims, especially during the annual Pitru Paksha period, considered the most favorable time for Pind Daan rituals. Pilgrims from different parts of the country visit Gaya to fulfill their ancestral obligations and seek blessings for their departed loved ones.
