11 Arrested in Hubballi-Dharwad for Betting on Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh Match

Hubballi, by Hubli Express News : The twin cities’ police have cracked down on bookies involved in cricket betting during Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh ICC Cricket World Cup match.

The twin cities’ police conducted raids at six locations, registered seven cases, and arrested 11 bookies. A total of Rs 76,420 in cash, along with eight mobile phones, was seized from the accused.

These bookies were allegedly engaged in betting during the Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh match held on Monday.

In the first case, the Vidyagiri police conducted a raid on bookies involved in betting near Bandemma Temple in the Gandhi Nagar area. Two suspects were apprehended, and Rs 36,120 in cash and three mobile phones were seized from them.

In the second incident, the Dharwad Sub Urban police conducted a raid near Uday Hostel in their jurisdiction. One suspect was arrested, and Rs 14,500 in cash, along with one mobile phone, was seized from the individual.

In the third instance, the Dharwad Town police conducted raids near Bhosappa Chowk and near Kempageri. Two bookies were arrested, two cases were registered against them, and Rs 13,500 in cash and two mobile phones were confiscated.

The fourth raid was conducted by the Ashok Nagar police in Hubballi, near Nrupatunga Betta. Two bettors were arrested, and Rs 3,600 in cash and two mobile phones were seized from them.

The Gokul Road police conducted a raid near Denissons Hotel and arrested one suspect, recovering Rs 3,200 in cash from him. Additionally, the Bendigeri police arrested three suspects who were involved in betting on Bidnal Road and seized Rs 5,500 in cash from them. Cases have been registered against these individuals.

The Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar praised the teams for their efforts and curtailing the betting menace by their active work.
