Will the 2025 Champions Trophy be Relocated? ICC Faces Tough Decision
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy might be relocated to South Africa if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refuses to accept the hybrid model, according to a report by PTI. There has been ongoing debate about India’s participation, with the Indian team refusing to travel to Pakistan for the tournament.
The ICC confirmed India’s decision and offered PCB the full hosting fees if they agree to the hybrid model. The tournament, scheduled for February 19 to March 9, 2025, may see India’s matches held in the UAE, with the final in Dubai.
Reports indicate that the Pakistani government may urge the PCB to withdraw the national team from the tournament if the hybrid model is rejected. The situation mirrors the 2023 Asia Cup, which was played under a hybrid model after India also refused to play in Pakistan. The PCB chairman has reportedly ruled out the hybrid model, leaving the ICC to consider moving the event if necessary.
