Why Eknath Shinde Decline the BJP’s Top Offers? December 5 Swearing-In Plans Confirmed, but Who Will Take the Oath?
Mumbai: Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has revealed that Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde was offered prominent roles within the Mahayuti alliance by the BJP’s leadership, but he declined these opportunities. According to Athawale, the BJP proposed appointing Shinde as the head of the Mahayuti alliance or a minister in the central government. However, Shinde opted against both roles and expressed his readiness to accept the BJP’s decision regarding the next chief minister of Maharashtra.
Athawale further indicated that the BJP might announce its chief ministerial candidate on December 4, with Devendra Fadnavis emerging as the leading contender. He asserted that Shinde, who has been recovering from a fever in Satara and was recently hospitalized, has stepped away from the race for the top post. “The BJP high command has informed him that he will not be made the chief minister. He has declined alternative offers and appears quite nervous,” Athawale stated.
Shinde’s party, Shiv Sena, acknowledged the leadership he demonstrated during the assembly elections and left the decision regarding his future role to the BJP’s central leadership. Shiv Sena leader Deepak Kesarkar clarified that while Shinde’s stature should be respected, the alliance remains united, dismissing rumors of discord. He emphasized that Shinde has no involvement in the delay in finalizing the new government and is prepared to abide by the BJP’s decision.
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections held on November 23, with the BJP emerging as the largest party. Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are underway, scheduled for December 5, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend. The final decision on the chief minister is anticipated to be revealed soon.
