In the Red Sea on Sunday, a U.S. Navy ship took defensive action by intercepting multiple drones approaching from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, as reported by a U.S. official. The USS Carney, engaged in safeguarding commercial vessels, successfully downed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in at least two instances during Houthi attacks.

The Pentagon, acknowledging the incidents, stated that additional information would be provided as it becomes available. A senior U.S. official disclosed that a ballistic missile launched by Houthi militants in Yemen landed near a merchant vessel in the Red Sea. In response to the distress call from the ship, the USS Carney, positioned nearby, took prompt action. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

While en route to aid the distressed vessel, the USS Carney intercepted a Houthi drone and had previously neutralized another drone from the same group, according to the senior official. The U.S. Navy ship’s proactive measures underscore its role in countering threats and ensuring the safety of maritime operations in the region.
