The US Senate narrowly averted a partial government shutdown by passing a comprehensive six-bill package designed to fund federal programs until September.

With Congress’s approval and President Joe Biden‘s imminent signature, preparations for a shutdown have been halted, ensuring uninterrupted operations for federal agencies, according to the White House. The Senate’s 75-22 vote just before the Friday midnight deadline paves the way for Biden’s expected signature on Saturday, marking a crucial breakthrough after months of relying on temporary funding measures.

The legislation covers various government departments and programs, addressing issues from agriculture to veterans affairs, and includes initiatives to strengthen critical sectors like air traffic control and rail safety.

Despite bipartisan support in the House, some conservatives, including members of the House Freedom Caucus, express reservations, citing concerns about the bill’s failure to address key Republican priorities. The successful passage, however, sets the stage for additional funding bills that lawmakers must finalize before the March 22 deadline.
