Two U.S. Navy SEALs, missing since a January 11 raid on an Iranian weapons-carrying boat in the Gulf of Aden, remain unlocated, prompting a status change to deceased, according to military officials on Sunday.

The operation, near the Somali coast, led to an exhaustive search covering 21,000 square miles by the U.S., Spain, and Japan. CENTCOM Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla expressed condolences, emphasizing the sacrifice. The mission transitioned to a recovery operation.

The U.S. has targeted Houthi positions in response to Red Sea attacks causing trade disruptions. A recent strike thwarted a Houthi anti-ship missile aimed at the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis persist in attacks, citing support for Palestinians in Gaza.
