Tragedy Strikes Eastern Iraq: 11 Civilians Killed in Explosive Attack
In an attack on Thursday night in Muqdadiyah, Diyala province, eastern Iraq, eleven civilians were killed by a group armed with explosives and guns, said officials.
The incident involved a roadside bomb explosion followed by gunmen opening fire on rescuers and bystanders at the scene. The attackers fled, and no immediate claim of responsibility has been made.
Diyala province has experienced periodic attacks by Islamic State cells and ongoing sectarian tensions, contributing to violence and insecurity in the region. Diyala governor Muthanna al-Tamimi pledged to pursue the perpetrators, emphasizing the need to address terrorism, while Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Kurdish region, called for enhanced cooperation between Iraqi and Kurdish security forces, said Western Media in its news report.
