Los Angeles: The man fatally shot by an intruder in his Los Angeles home on Monday night has been identified as Hollywood social activist Michael Latt.

Latt, 33, was the founder and CEO of Lead With Love, an organization that works to support “influential women and artists of color,” according Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Jameelah Elena Michl faces charges of murder and first-degree residential burglary in connection with the tragic shooting death of Michael Latt. The incident unfolded in Latt’s Mid-Wilshire residence on Alandele Avenue, marking a devastating loss for the community and raising concerns about the broader issues contributing to such violence.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “Our hearts ache for the loss of a passionate advocate who believed in the principles of justice and equity within our criminal legal system.” Latt, described as a dedicated advocate for justice, fell victim to the attack in his home on November 27.

According to the prosecution, Michl allegedly targeted Latt due to his association with a woman she had been stalking. On the fateful day, Michl reportedly went to Latt’s residence, forced her way in, and, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, fatally shot him. The victim’s residence was not only a place of sanctuary but also became a crime scene, shaking the Mid-Wilshire community.

District Attorney Gascón emphasized the collective responsibility to pursue justice, stating, “The violence that has taken place is not only an affront to the values we hold dear but also a stark reminder of the need to address the broader issues that contribute to such heartbreaking incidents.”

Jameelah Elena Michl, born on October 5, 1987, now faces serious charges, including the personal use of a handgun during the crime. The prosecution contends that another person, unrelated to the accomplice, was present in the residence during the burglary.

The arraignment for Michl is scheduled for December 15, 2023, at Dept. 30 in the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The prosecution is recommending a substantial bail of $3,000,000, reflecting the severity of the charges.
