Sydney Police Confirm Four Injured in Engadine Stabbing Incident
Sydney: Police have confirmed that four people were stabbed and two others injured following a violent incident in Engadine on the Princes Highway. A 58-year-old man allegedly stabbed his female passenger, in her 40s, while driving southbound. Witnesses reported erratic driving, which led to a collision with another vehicle.
Superintendent Donald Faulds from the Sutherland Shire Police Area Command stated that the couple was in a domestic relationship, with the woman currently in critical condition. Although there were no active Apprehended Violence Orders against the man, he was known to police.
In an attempt to assist, another woman was stabbed in the abdomen and is in serious but stable condition. The assailant sustained self-inflicted stab wounds and was taken to Liverpool Hospital in critical condition. A police officer also suffered a laceration while arresting the man and is in serious but stable condition.
Multiple calls were made to emergency services after the crash around 9 AM. Bystanders, thinking it was a routine accident, bravely intervened, only to confront the man wielding a box cutter.
Police are urging anyone with dashcam or mobile footage of the incident to come forward. The Princes Highway remains closed in both directions near Old Bush Road as investigations continue. NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat.
