New York, NY – February 18, 2024: A fast-moving winter storm painted much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic white overnight, dumping several inches of snow across 12 states. However, the snowfall distribution proved uneven, surprising some areas with lighter accumulations than expected.

From Illinois to Connecticut, the National Weather Service reported snow blanketing the region. Pockets of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New Jersey saw the heaviest snowfall, exceeding a foot in some areas.

The storm surprised major cities like Washington, D.C., expecting up to 5 inches but receiving only a dusting, according to The Washington Post. Similarly, south-central Pennsylvania’s anticipated 6 inches largely failed to materialize, leaving some roads and sidewalks nearly bare in towns like Hanover.

This latest snowfall comes on the heels of another Nor’easter that pounded the mid-Atlantic and New England earlier this week, disrupting travel and causing school closures.

Key Points:

  • Fast-moving storm blankets Northeast and Mid-Atlantic with snow.
  • Areas across 12 states see snowfall, with parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New Jersey receiving over a foot.
  • Some cities like Washington D.C. and parts of Pennsylvania receive less snow than predicted.
  • This follows another Nor’easter earlier in the week, causing travel disruptions and school closures.
