State Government Explores Land Options for New Airport Near Bengaluru
Bengaluru: In a strategic response to Tamil Nadu’s recent initiative to develop an airport in Hosur, the Karnataka government has set its sights on constructing an international airport along its border. This move reflects the state’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic growth.
To identify suitable locations for this ambitious project, the government is actively exploring available land around Bengaluru. Preliminary investigations have focused on several areas, including Bidadi, Hennur, Kunigal, Tumakuru, and Jigani, as potential sites for the new airport.
However, due to the challenge of securing at least 4,000 acres in the Jigani region, officials are now considering the Bidadi area as a more viable option. The industrial department has tasked a private firm with preparing a comprehensive report on the feasibility of constructing the airport in various identified locations.
In an interesting development, Captain Gopinath has proposed the simultaneous construction of two airports to significantly boost transportation infrastructure and industry connections. He believes this dual approach would yield substantial long-term benefits for the state. Nevertheless, the Karnataka government is currently prioritizing the establishment of a single airport as it navigates through the planning and development stages.
As the state moves forward with these plans, stakeholders and residents alike are keenly watching how this initiative unfolds and what it could mean for Karnataka’s economic landscape.
