Washington, USA: Ashwin Ramaswami, a 24-year-old software engineer, is poised to become the first Gen Z Indian-American in US politics, running for Georgia State Senate.

A second-generation immigrant, his parents migrated from Tamil Nadu in the 1990s. If successful, he would be District 48’s first Indian-American State Senator and Georgia’s first Gen Z State Senator, holding degrees in computer science and law.

Previously with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, he worked on election security and cybersecurity, emphasizing the need for tech expertise in government.

A Democrat, Ramaswami seeks to replace indicted incumbent Republican Shawn Still, linked to the January 6 Capitol insurrection. Passionate about Indian culture, he integrates his heritage into his political journey. Ramaswami aims to contribute to the community, advocating for equal opportunities and representation for young voices in politics.

Despite challenges for his generation, he emphasizes the importance of diverse voices in governance and hopes to demonstrate the impact of youth engagement in politics.
