Shettar Pushes for New Railway Line to Pilgrimage Site Savadatti
New Delhi: Belagavi MP and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has petitioned Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for a new railway line to connect Savadatti, a town renowned for its Goddess Renuka Devi temple.
In a meeting attended by Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna, Shettar emphasized the significance of establishing rail connectivity to Savadatti. He pointed out that the temple attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees annually from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and neighboring states. A railway link, he argued, would greatly benefit pilgrims visiting the sacred site.
Shettar urged the minister to initiate a survey for the proposed railway line at the earliest opportunity. Additionally, he requested the withdrawal of cases filed against farmers who participated in a “rail roko” protest in 2016, demanding the implementation of the Kalasa-Banduri project.
The Belagavi MP reported that Minister Vaishnaw responded positively to his requests and assured prompt action on both matters.
