Mumbai, India: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has denied claims that he played any role in securing the release of eight Indian Navy veterans who were detained in Qatar on espionage charges.

Rumors circulated online suggesting Khan used his influence to intervene in the diplomatic situation. However, on Tuesday, his team issued a strong statement refuting these claims.

“Any such assertions of his involvement are unfounded,” the statement said, emphasizing that the Indian government solely handled the negotiations. “Mr. Khan unequivocally denies his participation in this matter.”

The statement further reiterated that diplomacy and statecraft are best left to “our very able leaders.” It concluded by expressing Khan’s happiness about the veterans’ safe return and wishing them well.

Khan’s manager, Pooja Dadlani, also shared the statement on social media, further solidifying the actor’s stance.

The eight Indian nationals were imprisoned in Qatar since October 2022 on alleged spying charges. In December 2023, their death sentences were commuted, and seven of them have already returned to India.

The Indian government officially welcomed the release, expressing appreciation to the Qatari Amir for his decision.

While Khan was in Qatar for work commitments and even met the Prime Minister, his visit had no bearing on the veterans’ release, his team clarified.

This news puts to rest any speculation about Khan’s involvement in the matter and highlights the Indian government’s successful diplomatic efforts in securing the veterans’ freedom.
