RCB’s IPL Auction Game Plan: Targeting Overseas Fast-Bowlers
Dubai, Dec 18: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is gearing up for the IPL Auction in Dubai, expressing a strong interest in acquiring overseas fast-bowlers, according to Mo Bobat, the Director of Cricket for the team.
Ahead of the auction, RCB secured Australian all-rounder Cameron Green in a trade with Mumbai Indians. With a purse of INR 23.25 crores and six slots to fill, three of which are overseas, the team is focused on bolstering its pace and spin options.
The release of players like Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, and the trade of Shahbaz Ahmed to Sunrisers Hyderabad has opened up opportunities to strengthen the team’s bowling lineup. Bobat emphasized the priority of supporting core player Mohammad Siraj and enhancing the team’s overall bowling options.
Bobat, who is transitioning from his role as England Men’s Performance Director to a full-time position with RCB, is committed to establishing a performance-based culture within the team. Speaking about the team’s strategy, he highlighted the importance of creating the right environment for players to showcase their abilities and entertain the fans.
Discussing the auction strategy during RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India last month, Bobat delved into the considerations of skill, physical fitness, and psychological aspects when identifying potential players. He emphasized the need to distinguish between inherent attributes like pace and balance, which are harder to teach, and skills that can be developed over time.
With a strong core of retained players and a focus on strategic acquisitions, RCB aims to make significant strides in the upcoming IPL season, eyeing their first-ever IPL title.
