Lightning Strike Kills 8 on the Spot—6 Students Among the Victims!
In a tragic incident in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, eight individuals, including six schoolchildren, lost their lives after being struck by lightning on Monday. The group had taken shelter under a shed during heavy rainfall while returning from an exam, according to District Collector Sanjay Aggrawal.
The lightning struck the shed, killing eight people instantly, six of whom were Class 11 students. Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg confirmed the tragedy, stating, “Preliminary reports indicate that eight people, including several students, died due to the lightning strike. One person was seriously injured and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.”
In response to the tragic event, the state government swiftly announced an ex gratia payment of ₹4 lakh for the families of each victim. Compensation for the injured will be determined according to official guidelines. Senior government officials and police personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance to those affected.
