KCR’s Dreams Shattered: Congress Dominates with 65 Seats, Stakes Claim for Formation of Govt
Hyderabad: Celebration rang through the air as Congress state unit chief Revanth Reddy and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar met the governor on Sunday night. With an impressive victory of 65 out of Telangana’s 119 seats, they staked their claim to form the government.
The jubilant Shivakumar, speaking to reporters after the meeting with Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, exclaimed, “We are thrilled to declare our intent to form the government with the support of 65 members in this newly elected house. Anticipating the joyous occasion, we have scheduled a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party at 9.30 am tomorrow.”
In a strategic move, Shivakumar had been appointed as an observer for the legislative party meeting, showcasing the party’s commitment to keeping its members united as they prepared for the exhilarating counting day. Despite experts speculating about the party’s apparent jitteriness, the Congress’ proactive decision to stake their claim on the very night of counting reflects the confident and celebratory spirit within, as they bask in their majority of 64, well above the required 60-mark in the 119-member house.
Telangana Pradesh Congress President, Revanth Reddy is likely to become the next CM of the state, he is credited for revitalising the grand old party in the state. BRS party led by its chief K Chandrashekhar Rao’s dream of returning to the power was dashed as his party failed secure halfway mark, reducing it to just 39 seats.
