Karnataka CM Rallies Support Amid Tensions Over MUDA Case Prosecution
Bengaluru: Following the recent approval of prosecution in the MUDA (Mysore Urban Development Authority) case, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has intensified efforts to consolidate support within his party. The Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, held a crucial meeting with legislators on Thursday to discuss the evolving situation and chart a course of action.
During the legislative party meeting, significant discontent was voiced over the Governor’s decision to grant prosecution without a thorough investigation. The legislators expressed their dissatisfaction and proposed taking the matter to the high command in Delhi. They suggested that the leadership meet with the President to demand the recall of the Governor, citing a perceived bias against the state government.
Speaking to the media after the meeting at Vidhana Soudha, Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar asserted that the legislators had unanimously expressed their support for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “Legislator R.V. Deshpande proposed the motion, and it was seconded by Tanveer Sait. We all stand firmly behind the Chief Minister,” Shivakumar said.
He further criticized the Governor’s actions, stating, “The Governor granted prosecution without conducting a proper investigation. This decision has been unanimously condemned by our party members.” Shivakumar also suggested that the Governor’s actions were part of a broader strategy to destabilize the state government. “However, our government is strong, and no one can harm it. We are united in our support for CM Siddaramaiah,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister announced that a delegation would travel to Delhi on Friday to present their concerns to the party high command. “The high command has not summoned us; we are going on our own accord to ensure they are fully informed about the situation. There is a large conspiracy against the state government and the Chief Minister,” he said.
Shivakumar concluded by emphasizing that their fight remains within the legal framework. “We are committed to working within the boundaries of the law. Even now, if the Governor retracts his decision, it would demonstrate respect for the Constitution. We have requested this within the legal framework to avoid any further embarrassment for the Governor.”
The legislative party meeting, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was attended by several key legislators, including Vinay Kulkarni, R.V. Deshpande, N.A. Harris, K.J. George, Prasad Abbayya, Pradeep Eshwar, G.T. Patil, B.R. Patil, P.M. Narendra Swamy, and Zameer Ahmed Khan.
