Indian Doctor Arrested in U.S. for Allegedly Filming Children and Women in Compromising Situations
Washington: A 40-year-old Indian doctor has been detained in a U.S. jail with a staggering bond of Rs 16 crore ($2 million) after facing numerous charges related to sex crimes. Oumair Aejaz is accused of recording hundreds of nude images and videos of women and children over several years, as reported by various media outlets.
Aejaz was taken into custody on August 8 after he allegedly set up hidden cameras in various locations, including bathrooms, changing areas, hospital rooms, and his own home, where he recorded children as young as two years old in compromising situations. The disturbing nature of his alleged crimes came to light when his wife reported concerning materials to the authorities. Before this incident, Aejaz had no criminal record.
In addition to the allegations involving children, he reportedly filmed sexual encounters with several women while they were unconscious or asleep, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Mike Bouchard stated that the full extent of Aejaz’s offenses remains unclear, noting that the investigation could take months. Authorities suspect there may be many more victims, as they are currently reviewing thousands of videos discovered at his home in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Bouchard described the scale of the criminal activity as “disturbing on so many levels,” likening it to the case of Larry Nassar, the former sports doctor convicted of sexually abusing numerous young women.
Since Aejaz’s arrest, law enforcement has executed multiple search warrants, confiscating computers, phones, and 15 external devices. One hard drive alone contained around 13,000 videos. Investigators also believe he may have uploaded content to cloud storage.
On August 13, Aejaz was charged with one count of child sexually abusive activity, four counts of capturing an image of an unclothed person, and five counts of using a computer to commit a crime. He is currently held in Oakland County Jail on a $2 million bond, according to the *Detroit Free Press*.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald revealed that Aejaz’s wife produced alarming materials earlier this month, prompting immediate action from the sheriff’s office, which then confiscated additional devices. Investigators continue to sift through a wealth of “jarring, alarming images.”
McDonald emphasized that Aejaz exploited trusted community institutions and hospitals, which have cooperated fully with the investigation. Many allegations center around Aejaz reportedly recording a mother and her children in a changing room at the Goldfish Swimming Club in 2023, as well as allegedly assaulting patients within hospital settings.
“These are children and mothers at a swim school,” McDonald stated. “They come to ensure their kids are safe around water. Instead, they were victimized by someone they trusted—a medical professional.”
Aejaz’s professional history includes positions at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township and Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc. He moved to the U.S. in 2011 on a work visa and completed his residency at Sinai Grace Hospital, followed by time spent practicing in Alabama before returning to Michigan in 2018.
Given the large number of potential victims and the challenges in identifying them, police have established an email for individuals to contact authorities with any relevant information.
