Hubballi’s B Sohan Singh Claims Title in Intense Abacus Showdown

Hubballi: In a spectacular showcase of mental mathematics, Hubballi witnessed an extraordinary feat as B Sohan Singh, a 13-year-old student from Sujnana National Public School, emerged victorious in the fiercely contested State Level Abacus Competition. 

The event, which took place on Sunday at the Cubix Hotel organised by Radiant Mental Arithmetic, drew a staggering 1,200 participants from across Karnataka, highlighting the growing emphasis on mental arithmetic in the state’s educational landscape.

Sohan Singh had navigated through a grueling gauntlet of 15 preliminary rounds before earning his spot in the champions’ bracket. It was in the nail-biting 21st round of the final stage where Singh’s exceptional skills truly shone. In a display of remarkable mental agility, he successfully computed the sum of 290 single-digit numbers, outpacing his closest rival, Vidya Sajjan from Shirur, to claim the coveted title of state champion.

This prestigious competition, orchestrated by Radiant Mental Arithmetic, served as a platform for budding mathematical talents from every corner of Karnataka. It underscored the increasing recognition of mental math proficiency as a crucial cognitive skill in academic circles.

The award ceremony was graced by several distinguished educators from local institutions. Sister Celine Dsouza, who manages the Convent School, along with Sister Leena Fernanades, the principal of Sacred Heart Convent High School in Hubballi, and Sister Leena Handi, who heads the primary section of Convent School, Hubballi were on hand to present awards to Sohan Singh and other category winners, acknowledging their remarkable achievements.

The event also saw the presence of key figures from Radiant Mental Arithmetic. Geeta Kabadi, who spearheads the organization, was in attendance, accompanied by Venkatesh Kabadi. Teachers Varsha Hulamani, Shashikala N Dhongadi, Veena Sadashiv, Deepa Pujar, Aishwarya Benalmath, Nirmala S Agasanakoppa, Ramya and Rajeshwari Kulkarni were present.
