Hubballi: In a strategic move to fill the MLC seat left vacant by the recent defection of former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to the BJP, the Hubballi Congress party’s Vidyanagar and Unkal Block Committee convened a crucial meeting in Hubballi on Friday.

During the gathering, party leaders unanimously passed a resolution advocating for Anilkumar Patil, the former mayor and president of the Congress party Dharwad Rural district, as the deserving candidate to occupy the crucial position.

The meeting, attended by influential leaders of both blocks, including members of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), saw a robust condemnation of Jagadish Shettar’s decision to defect from the Congress party.

The leaders expressed their disappointment over the former Chief Minister’s move and emphasized their commitment to preserving the party’s unity and integrity.

Rajat Ullgaddimath and Sharif Gargad, presidents of the Vidyanagar and Unkal blocks respectively, along with other prominent figures, were present at the meeting. The leaders collectively voiced their support for Anilkumar Patil, highlighting his seniority and longstanding dedication to the Congress party.
