Hubballi: In a major crackdown on crime, the Hubballi-Dharwad Police have externed 31 habitual offenders and invoked the stringent Goonda Act against four notorious history-sheeters.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar said the four offenders — Sagar Lakkundi (Old Hubballi Police Station limits), Scientist Manjya (Keshwapur Police Station), Dawood Nadaf (Town Police Station), and Laxman Gabhya (Bendigeri Police Station) — have been booked under the Goonda Act and sent to different prisons across the state. Lakkundi has been lodged in Dharwad, Manjya in Kalaburagi, Nadaf in Mysuru, and Gabhya in Ballari.
The commissioner revealed that the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad have over 1,700 individuals listed as history-sheeters. Of these, 52 had previously been externed, and with the latest action, the total number of externed offenders has now reached 83. “This is part of a phased operation. In the next stage, a few more offenders will also be externed,” he added.
