The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was observed across the globe on Saturday with thousands embracing yoga’s unifying spirit. This year’s theme, *‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’*, highlighted the connection between personal well-being and planetary harmony.
From New York’s iconic Times Square to Australia’s historic Old Parliament House in Canberra, events unfolded across continents. In Times Square, over 10,000 yoga lovers participated in a full-day celebration supported by the Consulate General of India and Times Square Alliance. Actor Anupam Kher was among the attendees.
At the UN Headquarters, wellness expert Dr. Deepak Chopra led a guided meditation for over 1,200 attendees, including UN officials and members of the Indian diaspora.
In London, the Indian High Commission hosted an event at the Strand, where High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami shared a message from King Charles III, who praised yoga for promoting unity and compassion.
Indian diplomatic missions organized similar events worldwide. In Beijing, more than 1,500 people gathered, while in Moscow, festivities took place at the VDNKH and Metro stations. Riyadh saw participation from Saudi officials and yoga promoter Nouf Marwai.
Singapore’s Supertree Lawn, Port Louis in Mauritius, and Nepal’s scenic Pokhara also witnessed strong turnouts. In Sri Lanka, Independence Square and Jaffna hosted large gatherings, and Bangladesh featured yoga demonstrations by local institutions.
Even in places like Islamabad and Male, Indian missions held vibrant celebrations with local support.
In Japan, a large gathering took place at the historic Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple, led by Indian Ambassador Sibi George and senior Japanese dignitaries.
Across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, yoga brought people together in a shared commitment to wellness, peace, and mindfulness—reaffirming its global appeal and cultural significance.
