There’s nothing like waking up to the smell of fresh waffles. Whether you like them crispy or soft, sweet or savory, this basic waffle recipe is a great place to start. You don’t need any fancy ingredients — just your regular kitchen staples.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar (adjust if you like them sweeter)
1 tablespoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1¾ cups milk
½ cup melted butter (or vegetable oil)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, but lovely)
Instructions:
Preheat your waffle iron. Every waffle maker is different, so follow yours for the right temp.
In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients — flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients — eggs, milk, melted butter (or oil), and vanilla.
Pour the wet into the dry, and gently stir it together. Don’t overmix! A few lumps are totally fine.
Grease the waffle iron lightly with butter or spray, then pour the batter in (usually about ½ cup per waffle, but it depends on your waffle maker).
Close the lid and cook until golden brown and crisp. Most machines will beep or have a light when it’s ready.
Serve and Enjoy!
Top your warm waffles with anything you like — maple syrup, fresh berries, a dollop of whipped cream, peanut butter, chocolate chips, or even fried chicken if you’re feeling adventurous!
