Flu Season Still Serious: Over 100 Pediatric Deaths Reported in the US
LOS ANGELES: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging Americans to get vaccinated as flu season continues to pose a threat. Over 100 flu-associated pediatric deaths have been reported so far this season, according to the CDC.
Nationally, flu activity remains elevated, with some areas even experiencing increases. The CDC estimates that at least 28 million people have gotten sick, 310,000 have been hospitalized, and tragically, 20,000 people have died from the flu this season. Over 10,000 flu-related hospitalizations were reported just in the week ending March 2nd.
The CDC emphasizes the importance of annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older as long as flu viruses are circulating. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent serious flu complications, hospitalizations, and even death.
