Drive-By Shooting at JBSA-Chapman Training Annex: No Injuries Reported, Gate Closed
San Antonio: Security forces at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland (JBSA) engaged in a shootout early Saturday morning after at least one suspect fired at the main gate of the JBSA-Chapman Training Annex, according to a spokesperson. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a suspect in a sedan targeted the gate, prompting an immediate return of fire from security personnel.
No injuries were reported, and the gate was closed for several hours as a precautionary measure. The number of shooters and the extent of their gunfire remain unclear.
“There was no immediate threat to the installation,” said spokesperson Stefanie Antosh. “Our security forces acted to address and neutralize the threat. The suspect or suspects did not attempt to breach the gate.”
San Antonio police were called in to assist with the investigation, and the motive behind the shooting is still unknown. The entry gate at JBSA-Chapman Training Annex was closed temporarily and reopened around 9:30 a.m. Local drivers were advised to use an alternate gate on Ray Ellison Boulevard during the closure.
Joint Base San Antonio also includes Randolph Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, and Camp Bullis training camp. JBSA-Lackland, with over 24,000 active duty members and 10,000 Department of Defense civilians, hosts various units, including the 37th Training Wing, 149th Fighter Wing, and 59th Medical Wing, among others.
