In London, a man suspected of stealing a Banksy artwork featuring a stop sign adorned with three military drones has been arrested, according to the Metropolitan police. The theft occurred less than an hour after Banksy posted a photo of the piece on his Instagram page. A man in his 20s is now in custody on charges of theft and criminal damage.

Video footage captured the thief using bolt cutters to remove the artwork from a sign post in Peckham, south London. The man then fled the scene with the sign, leaving onlookers in awe. A witness named Alex described the crowd’s reaction, stating that people were confused and watched as the incident unfolded.

Jasmine Ali, deputy leader of the local borough council, has called for the stolen piece to be returned, emphasizing the community’s desire to enjoy Banksy’s work. The stolen stop sign has been replaced.

Banksy’s art often addresses thought-provoking and satirical themes, frequently focusing on war. The stolen artwork, featuring drone-like aircraft on a red stop sign, was interpreted by many as a call for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. While Banksy posted the artwork on his website and Instagram, where he has over 12 million followers, it remains unclear if the removal was part of the artist’s plan.

The incident occurred amid heightened global discussions about the Israel-Palestine conflict, with world leaders expressing varying opinions on calling for a cease-fire in Gaza.
