Cyclone Fengal Impact: Schools and Colleges Closed in Multiple Karnataka Districts Tomorrow
The winter season continues to witness the fury of rains across several parts of the state. Due to the impact of Cyclone Fengal, heavy rains have wreaked havoc in several districts, prompting precautionary measures. As a result, schools and colleges in Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Kolar, and Dakshina Kannada districts will remain closed tomorrow (December 3).
Schools and Colleges Closed in Kodagu
A red alert has been declared for Kodagu district tomorrow due to Cyclone Fengal. As a precautionary measure and for the safety of students, Deputy Commissioner Venkatraja has ordered the closure of all Anganwadis, schools, and colleges in the district.
Continued Rainfall Predicted
The Meteorological Department has forecasted rain in many parts of Karnataka tomorrow (December 3). Kodagu district, in particular, has been issued a red alert. With drizzles already ongoing, the department warns of heavy rains accompanied by strong winds tomorrow, leading to the district administration declaring a holiday for schools and colleges.
Dakshina Kannada Schools and Colleges Closed
The impact of Cyclone Fengal is strong in Dakshina Kannada as well, with the effects expected to persist tomorrow (December 3). The Deputy Commissioner, Mullai Mugilan, has declared a holiday for Anganwadis, schools, and pre-university colleges in the district following an orange alert.
Holiday Announced in Other Districts
- Kolar: Continuous heavy rains and extreme cold prompted health officials to recommend a holiday for schools and colleges tomorrow. Deputy Commissioner Akram Pasha has directed compensatory classes on another day.
- Ramanagara: In view of the rainfall forecast, Deputy Commissioner Yashwant Gurukar has declared a holiday for schools and colleges tomorrow.
- Mysuru: Continuous rains in Mysuru have led Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikant Reddy to declare a holiday tomorrow (December 3) for Anganwadis, schools, and pre-university colleges up to 2nd PUC.
- Chamarajanagar: Schools will remain closed tomorrow, but colleges will remain open due to ongoing examinations, according to Deputy Commissioner Shilpanag.
- Chikkamagaluru: Due to Cyclone Fengal’s impact, all Anganwadis, primary, and high schools will remain closed tomorrow, while colleges remain open. Deputy Commissioner Meena Nagaraj has also issued a helpline number: 08262-238950.
Udupi District Holiday
Schools and colleges in Udupi district will also remain closed tomorrow. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vidyakumari issued this order following the orange alert in the region.
Statewide Impact
The depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal and Cyclone Fengal’s effects have impacted Karnataka, causing rainfall in southern interior regions, including Bengaluru. Holidays were also declared today (December 2) in Mysuru, Kolar, Hassan, and other districts.
