Hubballi: Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, made a sharp statement on Thursday, claiming that it was a faction within the Congress party that provided the Enforcement Directorate (ED) with information leading to the recent action against Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara. Joshi asserted that the ED was simply acting on the information it received and carrying out its duties accordingly.

Responding to media queries in Gadag regarding the ED raids on educational institutions linked to Minister Parameshwara, Joshi stated, “It is well known—even to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah—who within the Congress provided the ED with this information. Despite this, they are now putting on a political drama.”

“Parameshwara is a dignified politician, and we respect him. Our government has no intention of troubling him personally. However, once the ED receives credible information, it is duty-bound to act—regardless of who is involved,” Joshi said.

Referring to ongoing political developments, he added, “From gold smuggling incidents to the latest raids, one specific faction within Congress is consistently behind these episodes. That same group is sharing all details with the ED. If the Chief Minister claims ignorance, he should find out through his intelligence network.”

Joshi further stirred controversy by revisiting past political history: “People remember who defeated Parameshwara in the 2013 elections. It is common knowledge that it was Siddaramaiah himself. History cannot be erased so easily.”

He clarified that the ED’s action was not politically motivated: “The raids are not because Parameshwara is a Congress leader or Home Minister. If any individual violates the law—be it me, Parameshwara, Siddaramaiah, or anyone from our party—the ED will take action. No one is above the law,” he said firmly.

On the issue of the state government’s directive to shut down Jan Aushadhi Kendras in government hospital premises, Joshi raised concerns: “The government claims to provide free medicines in hospitals. But are all essential medicines truly available for free in every hospital?” he questioned.

“Reconsider Decision to Close Jan Aushadhi Kendras,” Joshi Urges State Govt

Referring specifically to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in North Karnataka, Joshi pointed out that doctors there often prescribe medicines to be purchased outside. “If free medicines are being provided in government hospitals, why are poor patients still forced to buy expensive medicines elsewhere? Many are turning to Prime Minister’s Jan Aushadhi Kendras for affordable alternatives,” he said.

Slamming the Congress government’s move, Joshi continued, “By shutting down Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which offer medicines at reduced prices, the government is blocking a vital support system for the poor. Just because these centres bear the Prime Minister’s name, they are being targeted. This is petty politics.”

Joshi strongly opposed the state’s decision and urged a re-evaluation. “The government must reconsider its stance on Jan Aushadhi Kendras, keeping the welfare of the poor in mind,” he insisted.
