Chikkamagaluru: A man has been accused of behaving obscenely with a stray dog and attempting to sexually assault it, leading the police in Koppa, Chikkamagaluru, to file an FIR against him. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Jayapura Police Station and was captured on CCTV footage, showing the man acting indecently with the stray dog.
The incident reportedly took place at the Jayapura town bus stand, where the police registered the case on their own initiative. The video of the man’s alleged attempt has gone viral in Jayapura and Koppa.

The FIR mentions that the case was filed based on information provided by an on-duty police constable. According to the FIR, a video of the incident surfaced on November 9, and the constable lodged a complaint after reviewing the CCTV footage.
What did the police constable say?
The constable, stationed near the Jayapura bus stand on an undercover assignment, received information from sources that a person was holding a stray dog and acting indecently with it, thus causing harm and distress to the animal. The footage was captured on the CCTV camera of a nearby shop, Jayapura Enterprises. The constable reviewed the video, which had been circulating on social media, through the shop owner’s mobile device.
The video showed that the incident took place early in the morning on October 18, 2024, around 4:00 am. It depicted an individual seated on the front ledge of the Jayapura Enterprises shop at the Jayapura town bus stand, where he could be seen holding and mistreating the stray dog in a public area. After verifying the individual’s identity, he was found to be Shivaraj, a resident of Katti Mane. This detail has also been included in the FIR.
