ChatGPT Weekly Users Surpass 200 Million, Doubling Since Last Year
OpenAI has revealed that its ChatGPT platform now boasts over 200 million weekly active users, a figure that was first disclosed by Axios. Taya Christianson, an OpenAI spokesperson, confirmed this number to The Verge, marking a significant increase from the 100 million weekly active users reported in November of last year.
Christianson also highlighted that 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies are currently utilizing OpenAI’s products. Moreover, API usage has surged, doubling since the release of GPT-4o Mini, a more affordable and advanced version of the company’s model.
Since its debut in late 2022, ChatGPT has spurred competition, with tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Meta introducing their own AI chatbots. Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that their AI assistant has reached over 400 million monthly active users and 185 million weekly active users, even though it has yet to launch in regions such as the UK, Brazil, and the EU.
In another development, the US AI Safety Institute announced earlier today that both OpenAI and Anthropic have agreed to allow government evaluations of major AI models before they are released to the public. Meanwhile, there are growing reports that Apple and Nvidia might join the ranks of OpenAI’s future investors.
